BARKER -- Up by three runs entering the top half of the final inning, the JV Raiders were unable to hang on and lost 14-11 on Tuesday to the Newfane Panthers. Down 1-0 after the first and 5-0 heading into the bottom of the second Barker rallied for seven runs in that half of the inning to go up by two. Up by as much as 11-6 after five innings it seemed like the Raiders would break their four game losing streak with a big win, but Newfane was able to score eight runs in the final two innings and hold Barker scoreless to steal the victory from the Raiders.

With a shake up in the batting order Tony Diez had three hits, one of which was a double. Mitch Luckman had two singles as did Brett Cole. Josh Bergman, Austin Blackley and Hayden Gooding all drove in two runs. Zach Shaft, Diez and Cole each scored twice.

Spencer Moore did a good job on the mound pitching a complete game seven hitter with two strikeouts. Jake Haight highlighted the Barker defense by recording eight assists and three putouts. Haight figured into over half of the Newfane outs. "Jake had a tremendous day at short," said Coach Jeff Costello after the game. "Anything that was near him today he got to and made a play on. It was an impressive defensive display by a seventh grader. Whenever we needed him to make a play he did. Tony Diez made a couple of huge plays for us too by checking runners at third. Getting the guy in the rundown in the seventh seemed like it was just what we needed to hang on for the win, but we didn't get the other outs soon enough to close it out. 13 errors in a game doesn't allow you to win much or even be competitive for that matter. We have to be better defensively. Our bats were keeping us in the game, but when they went silent in the sixth and seventh we needed our defense and it wasn't there. That was a very tough loss."

The team is now 4-6 in the league and 6-13 overall. Barker will travel to Medina for a 3:15 start on Thursday.
