NEWFANE -- On Tuesday night in Newfane, the Barker Varsity Track teams fought through the cold and wet weather to capture their second wins of the season. On the boys side, Michael Lantinen and Tyler Scheving both won two events. Lantinen won the 1600 and 3200 meter runs, while Scheving won the 200 and 400 meter dashes. Also contributing with first place finishes were Rutger Moeller in the 110 hurdles, Jed Platt in the 400 hurdles, Ryan Levy in the 800, and John Austin in the shotput. The boys winning 3200 meter relay team included Lantinen, Sergio Cruz, Platt and Tyler Scheving, while the 1600 meter relay team included Levy, Jarid Worthington, Platt and Scheving.
First place winners for the girls included Savanna Gancasz in the 100 and the triple jump, Eliza Dewart in the 200 and 400, Alex Gancasz in the 400 hurdles, Margie Zaepfel in the 800, Rachel Anderson in the long jump, Alicia Sonberg in the shotput, and Corina Giannone in the discus. Dewart, Sarah Scott, Heather Mason, and Zaepfel combined to win the 3200 meter relay, while Bree Sutch, Dewart, Savanna Gancasz and Alexandra Gancasz combined to win the 400 meter relay.
