    Down Goes 20-Year Old 3200 Meter Relay Record

    BARKER -- On the first beautiful night this spring, the Barker Varsity Track teams battled to the end with visiting Akron. The boys won a huge victory, 72-69, while the girls dropped a heartbreaker by the same score. The boys were led by a record setting preformance in the 3200 meter relay. The team of Tyler Scheving, Jed Platt, Jordan Bender and Mike Lantinen broke a 20-year old record, running the relay in 8:37.8. Scheving also won the 400 and 800 runs. Other first place finishers included Rutger Moeller in the 110 hurdles, Ryan Levy in the high jump, Jed Platt in the pole vault, Josh Haight in the long jump, and John Austin in the shot put. The boys also had 14 second and third place finishes and numerous personal bests.
     
    The girls were led by triple individual winner Eliza Dewart, who won the 100, 200 and 400. Also taking first place finishes in individual events were Corina Giannone in the shot put and discus, Alex Gancasz in the pole vault, Rachel Anderson in the long jump and Savanna Gancasz in the triple jump. Anderson, Dewart and the Gancasz sisters took first in the 400 meter relay. Katie Pryzybl captured her first ever win when she took first place in the 3000 meter run.

    Both teams will compete on Tuesday at Roy-Hart.
