LANCASTER -- The Section VI Tennis Tournament draws the best 16 players from the over 500 who play in the section. With the exception of a foreign exchange student from France over 20 years ago, Erick Bennes is the first Barker tennis player to win a round of tennis at the Section 6 tournament. Bennes defeated his first opponent in a grueling three set match lasting two hours in 85 degree temps. Bennes took the decisive third set 6-1. In his second match, Bennes shocked the number five seeded player, from the ECIC, by winning  the first set 6-4. In the second set, Bennes took a commanding lead before his opponent battled back. After being down in the third set 3-0, Bennes won four of the last four games before losing the set 6-4. Bennes played from 3:15-8:00 with only a 40 minute break between matches. It was his best tennis of the year. After the match, several tournament officials noted and praised Bennes along with Coach Scofill and other members of the Barker Tennis team for their outstanding conduct and professionalism during the match. Bennes remained steady and sportsmanlike during the entire match. Barker and the Niagara Orleans League can both be very proud of the conduct off the court  of the people in attendance representing Barker and by Bennes' play and conduct on the court.
