ATHLETE OF THE WEEK

  • Two athletes are chosen to be Athlete of the Week during the regular season of each sports season. Athletes are nominated by their coaches and nominations are based on exceptional performances for the week. Each athletic week begins on Monday.

    Athletes who are selected receive a Barker Athletics long sleeve dri-fit shirt, a coupon for a free ice cream from the BCS cafeteria, a chip for a free ice cream sundae from Harris Farms, a coupon for a free slice of pizza from Crosby's, and a gift certificate from The Grain House Eatery and Taphouse.

    Pictures of the athletes are posted on displays that can be found in the hallway outside the high school gym, at Harris Farms, Crosby's, and the Grain House Eatery and Taphouse. Mikala Woock

Last week Mikala took 1st place at league powerhouse Newfane and grabbed a 2nd place finish at Albion to lead the Girls Cross Country team.  She continues to be a leader on and off the course as she displays an extraordinary work ethic and character on a daily basis.

Caleb Alexander

Caleb was a menace on the defensive line last week at Cleveland Hill, recording 4 solo tackles and assisting on 6 others, 5 of which were for a loss.  Caleb has shown incredible growth since last season and has turned into one of the team's most impactful players.

Cheyann Walker

Cheyann Walker is a first-year cheerleader who is persistent, hard-working and strives to be the best daily.  She is always looking to help others which is evident by the compassion she displays for her teammates and toward her coaches.

Adler Detschner

Adler Detschner is a 6-year member of the golf team and 2-year starter that has improved immensely over the years.  Last week, Adler shot a personal best 49 at Hickory Ridge, which was the team low against Albion, helping his team win the match by only two points.

Arianna Sturtevant

Arnie has been instrumental in the success of the Lyndonville-Barker Girls Soccer team as they have picked up 2 wins and narrowly lost 2 others by one goal. During this time, Arnie has been steadily improving her play by scoring 3 goals and adding 4 assists. Arnie most recently scored a game-tying goal in the second half against Notre Dame, sending the game into overtime.

Jake Munn

Jake had a great night for the Bulls at their homecoming game vs. Newfane. Defensively, Jake consistently moved from the defensive line to the edge and finished with 2 solo tackles, 4 assisted tackles, 3 tackles for loss and 2 sacks. Offensively, Jake was a solid anchor for the offensive line the entire game, opening holes for the running game while protecting the passer effectively.

Madelina Pavlock

Madelina Pavlock is a co-captain of the Varsity Field Hockey team and had exceptional games this week scoring 5 goals and assisting on 2 additional goals. She leads with constant encouragement towards her teammates as well as leading by example. In addition, she is an exemplary role model for the youth players she coaches.

Nathan Popovich

Nate is a 3-year starter on the Varsity Golf team and has excelled into being the team's top golfer this year. He currently is averaging a team-low 47 through 5 contests. In his match versus Albion last week, Nate earned medalist honors by shooting a match and career-low 42 at Niagara Orleans Golf Club.

Iliana Manning

Iliana is a first-year Varsity Track & Field athlete who has worked very hard on her throwing mechanics all year, including the off-season. Her efforts have clearly paid off as she earned 1st Team All-League honors in Shot Put by throwing an impressive 31' 7.5"!

Zack is a hard-working and dedicated thrower for the Track & Field team. His off-season workouts and year-long commitment to throwing allowed him to be a repeat champion and 1st Team All-Leaguer in the Shot Put by throwing an impressive 41' 4"!

Madyson Flint

Mady has excelled at shortstop and on the mound this season. Currently, she has a 1.20 ERA with 48 strikeouts in 39 innings. Offensively, last week she had 8 hits, including a homerun, scored 4 runs, had 5 RBI, and is currently hitting .438. Mady's love for the game, hard work, and humble attitude create a positive atmosphere for the team.

Last week, Daniel and teammate Luke DerSarkissian combined to win the 2024 Niagara-Orleans League Doubles Tournament. Daniel's hard work, dedication, and personal drive to succeed have elevated his status to be one of the top doubles and singles players in the league as only a sophomore.

Anna Bowerman

Over the last few weeks, Anna had 13 hits, which included 5 doubles and 1 triple, 9 RBI, 10 runs scored, and is currently hitting over .300. She has been a key player behind the plate for her pitchers by preventing passed balls, and has thrown out multiple runners attempting to steal. She has been a reliable leader and encourages her teammates to always be at their best.

Jackson Prynn

JJ continues to improve throughout the year, which showed when he pitched his best game of the season at Wilson last Friday. He threw 6 innings, allowed just 4 hits, struck out 7 and gave up only 2 earned runs. He also helped himself by picking off two runners in the effort.

Keira has been an anchor for the throwers on the Track & Field team for 2 years and is an exemplary role model for younger teammates. Her dedication and hard work allowed her to break a 7-year record in Discus by throwing 111' 9"! Congratulations Keira!

Jordyn has scored the most points on the girls' team through two meets, which includes several first-place finishes. Her focus and dedication have been key to the start of her year as her daily hard work is paying off early season dividends.

Peyton Bradley

Peyton played an all-around stellar game against Akron last week and was a big contributor to the win. In the circle, she allowed only 2 runs, struck out 7, and surrendered just 4 hits. Peyton leads the team offensively with 6 hits and 5 RBI. She has turned into a great role model by constantly displaying positivity and encouragement for teammates.

Wyatt is a model student-athlete who emphasizes student first, but is also an athlete who excels as a thrower on the Track & Field team. He is currently ranked in the top 10 throwers in all of Western New York and carries a GPA of 95.

Sophia is a first-year member of the competitive cheer team and has exhibited a tremendous passion for the sport. Her commitment and dedication to the squad have impressed her coach and teammates. Donovan Hefferon

Donnie comes to practice every day looking for ways to improve and help the team in any way he can. Donnie has started the last 2 games for us and has been a huge part of our 3-game league win streak. His defense and clutch three-pointers have been instrumental in helping the team win each of these games, which includes a go-ahead three-pointer to beat Medina.

Luey Castro

Luey Castro has led the Varsity Basketball team in scoring almost every week. Recently, he scored 31 points and had 13 rebounds against Roy-Hart to help secure a win in overtime. He is currently averaging 20 points per game in league play and has been a huge factor in the team's success so far this year.

Cheyann Walker

Cheyann Walker's consistent hard work during practices has really paid off. Despite grieving the loss of a family member, she set difficult goals at the start of the season and has pushed herself to accomplish those goals. This includes qualifying for the GR-NO crossover in the 50 Free, dropping 1 second in the 50 Free, and 4 seconds in the 100 Free. As a result, Cheyann is likely to earn her prestigious varsity letter this year as a freshman.

Logan Murrell

Logan Murrell is a dedicated teammate who is always looking for ways to improve and help the team win in any possible way. He showed incredible determination and skill throughout the entire game against Wilson in helping the Bulldogs earn their first league win by chipping in with 13 points. Logan was faced with tremendous adversity during the game, but thanks to his continued hard work, played a key role in securing the victory.

Owen gives 100% every day while fully uplifting and supporting his teammates. Riley has impressed her coaches in her first year as a Varsity Swimmer. She is extremely coachable and a dedicated, hard-working teammate. In addition, she has been progressively dropping her times in each of her non-league swim meets this year. The coaches are looking forward to watching her continue her rapid growth in the pool.

Shelby Dauphinee placed 20th at the All-League meet posting a 24:09 run, thus earning Honorable Mention All-League Honors. She showed incredible fortitude and determination while battling a nagging minor injury.

Peyton's hard work and strive for excellence was evident last weekend. As a rookie freshman, he placed 5th overall at the All-League meet posting a 18:51run, thus earning first team all-league honors.

Hailey Dodge

Hailey is a hardworking, stealthy and unassuming midfielder. Her quick speed and anticipation of a play creates great opportunities for herself and her teammates. She scored the first goal in history for the Barker Bulldogs to help secure the homecoming win over Buffalo Seminary.

Ireland played a big role this week, playing both sides of the ball, making key plays on offense and defense. Over the past two games, he has tallied 154 rushing yards, including a big 24-yard run to set up a big scoring drive.

Rachel continues to be an offensive weapon for the field hockey team this year. She set up a key goal scoring opportunity on a penalty corner against a strong Pittsford Mendon defense. In addition, she is a hardworking starter and a strong leader on and off the field.

Nathan Popovich

Nate is the Most Improved Golfer on the team. He proved this by finishing in second place on the team in the Niagara-Orleans League Tournament at Willowbrook. Nate shot an impressive 50 on the North Course, followed by another 50 on the South Course.

Michayla Greene

Michayla possesses tremendous leadership qualities, evident by her strong work ethic and positive attitude. She was instrumental in a close 2-1 loss vs. Attica as she impressed from her midfield/forward position, making successful passes under heavy pressure. In addition, she is highly coachable and well-respected by all her coaches and teammates.

Luke led the team in a huge win over Newfane last week and had a personal-best low 17-minute run over the weekend at the McQuaid Invitational. He continues to be a hard-working athlete who leads by example on and off the field.

Mikala won the race meet last week against Wilson and finished 14th at the Queensbury Invitational. Her time at Queensbury was her 2nd fastest time ever on a challenging course.  In addition, she shows great leadership on a regular basis.

Charlie continues to be one of the most consistent scorers and leaders on the golf course by carding scores in the mid-40s. His commitment and dedication to the game have proved to be most valuable to his team.

Over the first 2 meets of the season, Emma was 4th of 99 at the Red Dragon Invitational and 37th of 145 at the VVS Invitational, where she competed against nationally ranked Saratoga Springs and many other Class A schools.

Aidan rushed for 164 yards and 1 touchdown in a game against the Albion Purple Eagles. He also had 35 passing yards and accumulated 95 total yards on kick and punt returns.

Lina scored three goals and had one assist in the first two games of the season. She is a key playmaker both offensively and defensively and leads by example on and off the field.

Joel shot a career-low, 2 under par, 35 in an important match vs. Newfane and followed it up with a low 39 against Roy-Hart. Both of these scores helped lead his team to a 3-1 record in league play to start the year.

Peyton Bradley went 2 for 3 at the plate, raising her overall batting average to .483. She drove in 3 runs and scored 2. Against a very strong Alexander team she picked up the win in the circle, striking out 11 batters over 5 innings, giving her 97 for the season.

Daniel Goodwin is the first freshman in Barker Tennis history to qualify for Sectionals, earning the #2 doubles seed from the Niagara-Orleans League. He finished the season with a 9-3 record playing 2nd & 3rd singles throughout the season.

Kaylee Stoll

Kaylee Stoll had standout performances in 5 straight games last week. She went 9 for 14 with 6 walks, 9 stolen bases, 11 runs scored and totaled 7 RBI. Defensively, Kaylee made several outstanding plays at 3rd base, and turned two double plays. She is a true team player that leads with a positive attitude as she puts in 100% effort every day.

Matthew Ryan

Matthew Ryan plays 1st Singles and plays the best player from each team. He finished the week winning by scores of 6-0, 6-1 & 6-1, 6-1 and was selected to 1st Team All-League. As a 3rd year player, he has improved every year and has become the #4 ranked player in the league.

Mikala Woock ran a provisional time of 5:34.8 in the 1500m Run, which may qualify her for Sectionals. Mikala has been on the Varsity Track team since 8th grade. She is focused on running and her willingness to run extra events when needed are good examples to her teammates.

A Captain and 5-year starter, Aidan Voss threw a 1-hitter en route to shutting out Holley 15-0, striking out 15 on the way. He also went 3-5 from the plate with 2 doubles, 4 RBI & 2 runs scored.

Emma Evans broke the 3000m school record on Tuesday, April 25th. Emma shattered the old record of 11:34.2 by finishing her race with a time of 11:18.0.

The coaches and team are proud of her and her dedication as this is only her second year on the Track team.

Wyatt Payne

Wyatt is a second-year thrower and runner for the Track team. He is currently ranked 3rd on the team in Men's Discus and 16th overall in New York State Class D.

Wyatt has shown the ability to persevere through many challenges of being a model student-athlete.

Additionally, Wyatt throws the Shot Put, is on part of the Men's 4x400 Relay, and is a Scholar-Athlete.

Madilyn Detschner

Maddie is a second-year thrower and one of the captains of the throwing team. She has personal records of  59'-11" in the Discus throw and 25'-2.5" throwing the Shotput. 

This year, Maddie has placed in the top three Girls' Shotput in each league meet and 1st place against Albion.

Additionally, Maddie continually strives to exemplify the character traits of a model Barker Thrower such as daily improvement, tenacity, model behavior, and commitment.

Natalie Brandel

Natalie Brandel is leading the Varsity Softball team offensively. In 3 games this week, Natalie went 6 for 10 at the plate with multiple RBI. She had 9 Ks in her 4 innings pitched against Kendall.

On top of her performance on the field, Natalie’s positive attitude and encouragement towards her teammates is inspiring.

Lucas DerSarkissian has yet to lose a set in 1st doubles, and is currently 3-0 to start the season. He is assisted by his partner, Tommy Harris.

DerSarkissian's experience and skill prove most valuable in fostering the success that the duo has had thus far.

Mia Herman leads the Varsity Softball team offensively, after the first two games, going 6 for 8 at the plate, including 2 doubles, 1 triple, and a 2-run homerun. Mia also leads the team with 8 RBI, 7 runs, and 2 stolen bases.
